Exploring the Treasures of Kandy: An Educational Tour

Embarking on an educational tour can be an enriching experience for students, providing them with valuable insights beyond the confines of the classroom. An excursion to the magnificent Peradeniya Botanical Garden started on the first day of the program. The garden, which covers an area of 147 acres, is a vivid botanical paradise with a large variety of orchids, medicinal plants, and tall trees. Students learned about diverse plant species, their ecological importance, and the background of the garden as they led their fellow students and lecturers around the garden's twisting trails.

The students proceeded to the beautiful hotel Earl’s Regent for a delightful lunch that offered them a comfortable stay during their tour. The hotel's warm ambiance and delectable cuisines added to the overall experience, rejuvenating the students for the afternoon's cultural exploration.

Next on the itinerary was the International Buddhist Museum, situated in the heart of Kandy. The museum serves as a treasure trove of Buddhist artifacts and historical relics, providing valuable insights into the profound teachings of Buddhism. As the second group of students led through the museum's exhibits, they discovered ancient sculptures, manuscripts, and religious artifacts, fostering a deeper appreciation for Buddhism's global influence.

The final destination of the day was the renowned Temple of the Tooth, or Sri Dalada Maligawa, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This sacred temple houses a relic believed to be a tooth of Lord Buddha, making it one of the most revered places of worship for Buddhists worldwide. As the third group of students guided through the temple's grand halls and intricately adorned architecture, they soaked in the spiritual atmosphere. They learned about the cultural significance of the relic and the temple itself.

Day 2: Unearthing the Gems of Kandy

On the second day of the tour, students visited a Gem Museum. Here, they had the unique opportunity to explore the world of precious gemstones that Sri Lanka is renowned for. The museum showcased an impressive collection of gems, providing valuable insights into the country's gem mining history and the significance of these gemstones in the global market.

After an informative visit to the museum, the students returned to the campus, culminating in their unforgettable educational tour to Kandy.
